What is Wire EDM

Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (Wire EDM) uses a thin
brass wire (typically .01" to .012" Diameter) to cut through any conductive materials (Even hardened materials). The wire is continuously fed through a top and bottom guide (The cutting happens in between the two guides - see image below). Both top and bottom guides have the ability to act together or independently of each other.
We have Linear Driven Sodick Wire EDM Machines (No ball and screw). This means the table moves on a magnetic field, allowing for tight tolerances and repeatability. What can be cut is left up to the imagination. So next time you have to redesign that part, think how Wire EDM can solve the problem first, it just may surprise you!
